City of Toccoa recognizes Sixth Grade Essay Contest Winners
Updated April 1, 2009
Local sixth-grade students wrote about what they would do if they were Mayor, and the Toccoa City Commission recognized them during a recent City Commission meeting.
The students participated in the 11th annual “If I Were Mayor, I Would” essay contest, which was open to all Toccoa sixth graders. This event gave students the opportunity to share their visions of what their community would be like under their guidance.
This year's winners were Drew Wilson (first place), Marissa Ivester (second place), Nick Castillo (third place), Mary Hannah Pyeatt (fourth place), and Grant Dawson (fifth place).
Winners from 2008 were Richard Hobbs (first place), Conner Roberts (second place), Steven Whitworth (third place), Aaron Ekback (fourth place) and Brittany Frank (fifth place). This year also marked the first year that a student, Chandler Alligood, was recognized for Best Innovative Essay.
