City of Toccoa Stream lines Curbside Debris Removal
The City of Toccoa Public Works Department has recently completed testing, training and implementation of a new Global Positioning Satellite system. This new technology will assist citizens by locating, marking and categorizing standard piles of curbside debris placed outside. This system will result in a dramatic increase in fuel consumption, wear and tear on equipment and man hours to complete necessary pick-up routes.
The only change for the customer will be that no matter when the debris is placed in front of the residence, it will only be picked up the day after the garbage collection. The crews will be able to dispatch directly and only to the piles marked. Therefore, the end result is that curbside debris pick-up will still occur each week, as always.
This is a simple and exciting new process with a small modification to the routine. For more information or if you have questions, please contact Janet Dye in the Public Works Department 706-282-3280. The City of Toccoa will begin this new collection system on December 1, 2008.
