Ida Cox Music Series
The Ida Cox Music Series was created by Main Street Toccoa to fill a need for quality local musical entertainment. The weekly Saturday concerts are free and feature an opening act and a headline act from 7 until 10 p.m. in downtown Toccoa on Doyle Street from Sage Street to Pond Street with a wide variety of music. A different musical genre is featured each week.
The series is named for Ida Cox, who was born Ida Prather in Toccoa before going off to make her mark in the music world in the first part of the 20th century. She started as a vaudeville performer and was one of the pioneers of the blues genre of music.
Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said the Main Street Department has wanted to have a music event in the downtown for some time.
"We have such a rich history of music here and we wanted to do something to help showcase music in Toccoa and Stephens County," said Crosby. "We thought this would be a good summer to have something every weekend."
Food, beer, and wine are available for purchase on the street.
