Solid Waste Department

The City of Toccoa’s garbage system is totally independent from the county. The City has its own collection system and transfer station. Therefore, City residents do not have to purchase stickers or even place their waste in bags. The City provides residents with a rollout garbage can and a recycling bin.

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners voted to implement a “pay as you throw” garbage system at all county convenience sites. Under the system, county residents are required to purchase stickers to throw their garbage away.

City residential customers pay a monthly fee of $22.22 for a weekly pickup of garbage, recycling, trash, brush and leaves in season. (Leaf pickup service usually begins on Nov. 1 and ends Jan. 31).
